How buying a gun in Mobile works

Pick an FFL dealer near you that accepts shipped transfers and name it at checkout. We confirm their license and ship the firearm to them. Ammunition, optics and parts ship straight to your door where Alabama law allows.

Alabama requires no purchase permit, no registration and no waiting period. Your dealer runs the federal NICS check and the transfer usually finishes in the same visit. Federal age limits govern a dealer sale: 21 for a handgun, 18 for a rifle or shotgun. Alabama repealed its pistol permit requirement for carry in 2023 and added nothing on the purchase side. Orders from us ship to the Alabama dealer you name, and you complete ATF Form 4473 there and pay that dealer's transfer fee.

Carrying a gun in Mobile County

Alabama has allowed permitless concealed carry since January 2023 for adults who may lawfully possess a handgun, and open carry was already lawful. The Mobile County Sheriff still issues the concealed pistol permit, which remains useful for reciprocity in other states, for carrying in a vehicle without further questions, and as proof of eligibility. Schools, courthouses, police facilities, athletic events and posted private property are restricted. Many counties offer a lifetime permit, so ask the sheriff's office what is available before you apply.

Hunting near Mobile

The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources divides Alabama into deer zones with staggered dates so the rut is covered across the state. Archery opens in October, and the gun season generally runs from November into early February, one of the longest in the country, with dog hunting allowed in designated areas. Centerfire rifles, shotguns, muzzleloaders, handguns and archery gear are legal for deer. Bag limits are counted per day and per season, and feral hogs may be taken year round on private land with permission. Check the current regulations for your zone.

Mobile County opens onto the Mobile-Tensaw Delta, a serious duck, deer and hog destination with public water; Alabama's gun season runs into February and the delta WMAs set their own dates.

Salt air here means steel trigger parts get oiled more often than most, and Alabama's permitless carry keeps compact Glocks on a lot of belts.

The public ranges below are run or officially listed by state wildlife agencies and state forests near the cities we cover. Most ask for a hunting or fishing license, an access permit or a small daily fee, and some close for the season, so check the agency page before you go to test a new trigger.
